Nun auch in Bodrum: Deniztemiz-Turmepa

After Antalya, Istanbul, and Gocek, Deniztemiz-Turmepa, an association dedicated to cleaning up Turkey's seas and keeping them that way, has opened a branch in Bodrum as well. By means of the projects that it undertakes, Turmepa comes up with proposals for soluions at the national and international level to clean up the seas while also making institutional sensitivity towards the problem permanent and consistent through the responsibilities that it assumes. Making its voice heard on a variety of platforms, Deniztemiz-Turmepa is a member of Med Forum, an association of environmental group and non-governmental organizations in Mediterranean countries. It cooperates with UNEP-Map (Mediterranean Action Plan), an agency of the United Nations in which Mediterranean countries are represented at the government level.

Deniztemiz-Turmepa is also one of the Turkish non-governmental organizations taking part in the Black Sea Environment Program.

Association members are united in the belief that the way to start cleaning up the seas is to stop polluting them. Compared with the situation in western Mediterranean countries like Spain, France, and Italy, Turkey's seacoasts are still quite clean they say and Bodrum's inhabitants they find are already quite informed and proactive on the subject of preventing pollution. The most crucial issue is that the peninsula's problems related to infrastructure are still not completely resolved.

Turmepa is ready and willing to accept volunteers' contributions of whatever nature. Those who are interested should call at the association's site http://www.turmepa.org.tr/ where pages describing Turmepa are available while also taking advantage of its growing index of 3,300 entries under its Info Center project.
